The Moderna Exhibition 2010
2 October 2010 – 9 January 2011
Moderna Museet
On 2 October, Moderna Museet opens the new edition of The Moderna Exhibition, its recurring inventory of the most interesting recent developments in Swedish contemporary art.
The Moderna Exhibition 2010 features 54 artists, 28 women and 26 men, who have made a strong impact on the Swedish art scene. Most of the works have never been exhibited to Swedish audiences, and more than half of the works have been produced specifically for this exhibition. The Moderna Exhibition is held every four years and is intended as an overview of Swedish contemporary art. The 2010 edition acknowledges that the heterogeneity of our era is also reflected in art. Consequently, The Moderna Exhibition 2010 does not have one single theme, nor does it propose that there is any technique or style that defines the current art scene. Instead, the exhibition highlights mutually enhancing disparities and gives viewers examples of what relevant artistic work can involve today: from various forms of documentary projects, explorations of painting and sculpture, to artistic research at universities.
“However, we have identified four different contexts where the roads of the 54 artists intersect: images of Sweden, discussions about authorship and narration, revisiting modernist formal idioms, and the ethereal and spiritual. Altogether, this represents what we consider to be the most interesting expressions of Swedish art right now”, says Fredrik Liew, curator of the Moderna Exhibition.
Curator: Fredrik Liew with Gertrud Sandqvist, Lisa Rosendahl
Assistant curator: Jo Widoff
Admission: 100/80 SEK

Galleri Niklas Belenius at Art Forum Berlin 7-10 october.
Gallery is showing:
JOHAN STRANDAHL & AIDS-3D (DANIEL KELLER & NIK KOSMAS)
Please visit us at art forum berlin – sector focus, hall 20, booth 160a
Established in 2006, Gallery Niklas Belenius is a young contemporary art gallery based in Stockholm. From the onset the key objective has been to form an intergenerational program supporting emerging as well as more established artists of all media. Though the work is diverse in presentation the artists
are linked by a commitment to continuously reassess the position of artistic practices within their wider cultural, social and political frameworks. The programme includes solo and thematic exhibitions and the space also invites guest-curated projects. Over the last four years the gallery has
developed into a vibrant location for performances and exhibitions in different forms.
At art forum berlin our proposed concept is to showcase the american artist duo aids-3d and the Swedish artist Johan Strandahl along side each other and toinvestigate their different contributions to the discourse that challenges our views of modern technology. In their art works, Aids-3d often draw upon the history of the ready-made, utilizing ready-made objects that with the help of high-tech computer engineering become tools in advancing crucial humanitarian research.
Johan Strandahl’s art investigates and proposes a questioning of the creation process and
originality of manufactured objects, and ultimately how modern technology and the restrictions it imposes upon us can also set us free. At art forum Berlin we are planning to introduce new art works by aids-3d and Johan Strandahl and to include both sculptures and drawings.
